🍊 The Big Orange Exploration Network

Across the American Mid-South, thousands of lakes, rivers, and quiet waterways shape the outdoor life of the region. From the Appalachian foothills to the Carolina lake country and into the Tennessee Valley, water connects communities in ways that roads never could.

The Big Orange Exploration Network is our effort to connect riders, communities, and waterfront partners across this region through shared discovery and exploration.

What began as a small eFoiling club in North Carolina’s Triangle Area is gradually expanding into a broader network of riders who enjoy exploring calm inland waters together.

At the heart of this network is a simple idea:

exploration is better when it is shared.

A Regional Exploration Vision

The Mid-South region contains one of the most diverse freshwater landscapes in the United States.

Within a few hours’ drive, riders can find:

quiet forest lakes

wide reservoir shorelines

winding rivers

small waterfront towns

The Big Orange Exploration Network gradually maps and connects these waters through community exploration programs such as Discovery Wednesday and the Mid-South 100 Waters Project.

Each ride contributes new knowledge about the water, the landscape, and the communities that surround it.

300 Lakefront Communities

Many of the region’s lakes sit beside vibrant residential communities. These neighborhoods often overlook some of the most beautiful water in the Southeast.

The Big Orange Community Network recognizes and connects these lakefront areas throughout the Triangle and surrounding regions.

Residents frequently discover eFoiling simply by seeing riders gliding quietly across the water during early morning sessions. Over time, these communities become natural gateways for new riders who live close to the water.

Campus Explorers

Universities are full of curiosity, creativity, and energy.

The Campus Explorers initiative connects Big Orange with university outdoor programs and student communities throughout the region.

Students often bring a unique perspective to exploration — combining outdoor adventure with engineering curiosity, environmental awareness, and a spirit of experimentation.

Many future route surveyors and exploration leaders will likely emerge from these campus communities.

Triangle Tech Explorers

The Research Triangle Park region is home to one of the largest concentrations of scientists, engineers, and technology professionals in the United States.

For many of them, hydrofoil boards are fascinating not only as a sport but also as an elegant example of physics, engineering, and design.

The Triangle Tech Explorers initiative welcomes those who enjoy both technology and outdoor exploration. These riders often appreciate the unique mechanics of hydrofoil lift, electric propulsion, and silent gliding above the water.

Lake District Partners

Exploration depends on the people and places that support life around the water.

The Big Orange Lake District Partner Network includes marinas, waterfront restaurants, lodging hosts, and other businesses that help riders access and enjoy the lakes.

These partners provide:

launch points

gathering locations

local knowledge of the water

hospitality for visiting riders

Every lake has its own character, and local partners help riders discover it.

Growing the Map of Water

The Big Orange Exploration Network is still young, and every season expands its reach.

New lakes are explored.

New communities join the journey.

New riders discover the joy of gliding silently above the water.

What began as a few riders exploring calm lakes in North Carolina is slowly becoming a regional network of shared discovery.

Because at Big Orange, exploration follows a simple philosophy:

move with the water — not against it.

And every journey begins with a first ride.
