As part of the Big Orange Water Sports Exploration Series, we began scouting Jordan Lake to answer a simple question:
If you only have one day at Jordan Lake, where should you go?
The answer depends on what kind of experience you're looking for.
Some visitors want a peaceful morning on the water.

Others simply want to discover a new corner of the lake.

Ebenezer Church Recreation Area
If we could recommend only one location for most visitors, this would be it.
Ebenezer combines sandy beach access, fishing opportunities, picnic shelters, wildlife viewing, open-water recreation, and beautiful sunset scenery into one complete destination.
Big Orange has completed multiple water testing sessions here and found it to be one of the most versatile locations on Jordan Lake.

Farrington Point
For riders and explorers who want quick access to Jordan Lake without entrance fees, Farrington Point is difficult to beat.
The location offers a large launch area, convenient parking, and excellent access to open water.
Its central location near Chapel Hill and Durham also makes it one of the easiest gathering points for community rides, equipment demonstrations, and exploration events.

Vista Point
When Jordan Lake wakes up, this is where you want to be.
Vista Point faces east across open water and provides some of the most beautiful morning scenery anywhere around the lake.
Early visitors are often rewarded with calm water, cooler temperatures, soft golden light, and beautiful reflections stretching across the lake.
This is Jordan Lake at its quietest and most peaceful.

Robeson Creek Boat Ramp
Robeson Creek offers a quieter side of Jordan Lake.
Compared to the larger recreation areas, the atmosphere here feels more exploratory and less crowded.
Visitors looking to escape busy beaches and discover a different side of the lake may appreciate this location.

Interesting shoreline environment
Things to Know
Current water levels around Robeson Creek have been affected by recent drought conditions. During our scouting visits, water depth in portions of the area appeared too shallow for eFoil operations and larger hydrofoil systems. However, the location remains suitable for traditional paddle boards, kayaks, and other low-draft paddle craft.
Visitors using propulsion systems, fins, or hydrofoils should pay close attention to water depth and submerged obstacles.

Adventurers, paddlers, photographers, wildlife observers, and independent explorers.

Jordan Lake Hydroelectric Project
While not a launch point, the Jordan Lake Hydroelectric Project remains one of the most interesting locations around the lake.
The site provides unique views and a better understanding of the infrastructure that helps manage Jordan Lake.

Which Jordan Lake Launch Point Is Right for You?
After scouting Jordan Lake's major public access areas, one thing became clear:
There is no single "best" launch point.
Each location offers a different version of Jordan Lake.
The question is not which launch point is best.
The question is:
What kind of day are you looking for?
🌅 For the Early Birds
If your perfect day begins before most people wake up, Farrington Point may become your favorite launch point.
Unlike many recreation areas around Jordan Lake, Farrington Point does not operate behind state park entrance gates. This makes it one of the few locations where visitors can potentially access the lake before sunrise.
We are currently conducting additional field scouting to evaluate sunrise viewing conditions and determine whether Farrington Point truly offers the best sunrise experience on Jordan Lake.
For now, it remains our most promising sunrise-access location.
🌄 For the Morning Explorers
Vista Point belongs to visitors who appreciate the beauty of the morning.
Although park operating hours may prevent true sunrise access, the location still offers some of the finest morning scenery on Jordan Lake.
Soft light, calm water, and open eastern views make it a favorite destination for photographers and early-day explorers.
🌇 For the Laid-Back Families
If Vista Point belongs to the morning explorers, Ebenezer belongs to the families who want to slow down and enjoy the evening.
Children playing at the beach, anglers casting a line, friends gathering under picnic shelters, and families staying long enough to watch the sun disappear beyond the shoreline—this is the character of Ebenezer.
This is Jordan Lake at its most relaxed.
🚀 For Frequent Riders
Farrington Point may not have the beach atmosphere of Ebenezer or the recreation facilities of Seaforth, but it delivers something equally valuable:
Convenience.
Free access, easy parking, and quick entry to open water make it the launch point many local riders will return to again and again.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 For Traditional Family Recreation
Seaforth remains one of the safest recommendations for visitors looking for a classic lake day.
Swimming, picnics, family facilities, and easy access make it a reliable choice for visitors who simply want to enjoy time outdoors.
🧠For Explorers
Some visitors are not looking for beaches or crowds.
They are looking for somewhere different.
Robeson Creek rewards those who enjoy discovering places beyond the most popular recreation areas.

If you ride frequently and value convenience, Farrington Point may become your regular launch location.
And if our upcoming field verification confirms what we suspect, Farrington Point may also become Jordan Lake's premier sunrise-access launch point.
