šŸŠ The Big Orange Safety System: Entry Flow & Youth Participation

Updated: Apr 20

🟠 A Club Built on Safety, Not Speed

At Big Orange, we are not a rental operation.

We are a family-friendly eFoiling clubĀ built on:

  • safety

  • structured progression

  • long-term riding confidence

Every session follows a clear system designed to:

šŸ‘‰ reduce injury riskšŸ‘‰ guide riders into the right pathšŸ‘‰ create a safe environment for both adults and youth

🟠 šŸŠ Big Orange Entry Flow

1ļøāƒ£ Safety Check

Before entering the water, every participant is assessed based on:

  • Swim Ability

Comfort in water and ability to remain calm

  • Mental Readiness

Ability to stay composed and follow instructions

  • Physical Mobility

Balance, controlled movement, and recovery ability

This is not about experience or body type.It is about control, awareness, and readiness.

2ļøāƒ£ Land Training

• Introduction & Stretch

We prepare riders with:

  • board behavior basics

  • safe fall techniques

  • throttle awareness and release control

• Balance Simulation

Riders learn:

  • weight shifting

  • micro-adjustments

  • how to stay relaxed under instability

This step significantly reduces panic and improves control on water.

3ļøāƒ£ Water Control Test

(Paddle Board with Propeller Thrusters)

Each rider performs a controlled test to evaluate:

  • balance under motion

  • directional control

  • reaction to instability

āœ… Outcome

  • Pass → Foil Path (Progression Track)

Riders who demonstrate strong control may proceed to the eFoil learning progression, which requires focus, discipline, and continued training

  • Pass → Relax Path (Fun Track)

Riders who prefer a lighter experience may continue with e-scooter / powered board ridingĀ for enjoyment

  • Not Pass → Relax Path

Riders who do not meet the control standard will continue with:

    • low-risk powered board riding

    • guided sessions focused on stability and confidence

This ensures every rider stays within a safe and appropriate level.

4ļøāƒ£ Membership Gate

Foil progression is reserved for members only.

This ensures:

  • consistent training

  • accountability

  • a safety-first community culture

🚨 Rescue Readiness Layer

🟠 Communication-Based Safety System

Every session operates with a real-time safety structure

  • Dedicated Safety Observer

    Focused only on rider safety

  • Emergency Communication (Walkie-Talkie System)

With emergency beeping/alert function to signal:

    • immediate stop

    • return to safe zone

    • attention required

  • Clear Zone Definition

    • Ride Zone

    • Safe Zone

🟠 Mandatory Rule

All riders must respond immediately to Guide instructions and safety signals.

āš ļø Understanding Real Risk

Most injuries are not caused by speed.

They come from:

  • Panic during falls

  • Overcorrecting at speed

  • Fatigue

  • Ignoring instructions

🟠 What Matters Most

  • stay relaxed

  • react smoothly

  • know when to stop

šŸŠ Youth Participation & Progression

Big Orange is a family-friendly community, and youth safety is a top priority.

  • Participate in structured water sessions under supervision

🟠 On-Water Conduct Requirement

  • Maintain controlled and responsible behavior

āš ļø Safety Enforcement Policy

If a rider does not follow instructions or demonstrates unsafe behavior:

They will be asked to return to land immediately and will not continue riding for the remainder of the session.

This is a safety measure, not a punishment.

🟠 Returning to the Water

Future participation depends on:

  • rider readiness

  • ability to follow guidance

  • overall safety conditions

Final decisions are made by the Big Orange Guide team.

🟠 Advancement Test — H01 Control Standard

To qualify for eFoil progression, youth riders must complete:

H01 Full Throttle Go & Return Test

🟠 Equipment Context

1ļøāƒ£ Controlled Full-Throttle Acceleration

  • No sudden instability or panic reaction

2ļøāƒ£ Stable Directional Control

  • Execute a controlled turn and return

3ļøāƒ£ Composed Return (Critical Standard)

No slouching or hunching that shifts the center of gravity

  • Correct Visual Focus

Eyes directed toward the far end / riding direction,

not staring down at the water

āœ… Passing Outcome

āš ļø Additional Requirements

  • Guardian permission required

Big Orange’s final decision based on safety, conditions, and individual readiness.

Parents and guardians acknowledge responsibility for:

  • evaluating readiness

  • ensuring supervision

  • following all safety rules

🟠 The Big Orange Philosophy

Riders learn to move with the water — not against it.

Every step in this system exists for one purpose:

šŸ‘‰ to help you reach that moment safely
