Fall Safe. Rise Strong. Foil with Confidence.

At Big Orange, safety is not just a rule written on a wall.It is a culture we practice every time we enter the water.
Electric hydrofoiling is an exciting sport, but it also requires balance, awareness, and respect for the water. Our goal is not to push riders toward speed or advanced maneuvers too quickly. Instead, we focus on steady learning, calm conditions, and confident progression.
This approach allows beginners, families, and new riders to experience the sport in a safe and supportive environment.
Calm Water First
Big Orange sessions are primarily held on calm lakes and protected waters. Flat water makes learning easier and significantly safer. Riders can focus on balance and board control without dealing with waves, currents, or heavy boat traffic.
Calm conditions also allow instructors to observe riders closely and provide guidance when needed.
Step-by-Step Learning
Every rider progresses at their own pace. For beginners, the learning process usually follows a simple progression:
Land balance practice. Riders learn body posture and weight distribution before entering the water.
Low-speed board control. Riders practice starting, stopping, and maintaining stability on the board.
Controlled lift and glide. Once balance improves, riders begin experiencing smooth hydrofoil flight above the water.
This step-by-step method helps riders build confidence naturally while reducing unnecessary risks.

Safety Equipment and Support System
At Big Orange, riders are encouraged to use proper safety equipment, and the club maintains a complete watersport safety support system during sessions.
Recommended personal gear includes:
• Helmet
• Impact vest or life jacket
• Board leash when appropriate
• Sunscreen clothing (UV protection)
• Water shoes for shore safety
In addition to personal gear, Big Orange provides several layers of safety support on the water:
• Safety boat or support craft available during sessions
• Communication devices for coordination on the water
• GPS positioning devices for rider tracking when needed
Together, these measures form a comprehensive safety system designed to support riders before, during, and after each session.
🍊 The Big Orange Safety Circle
At Big Orange, we believe that safe riding starts with awareness. Our safety philosophy can be summarized in a simple concept we call the Safety Circle.
Every rider should understand three things before going on the water:
1️⃣ Know Yourself
Understand your current skill level, physical condition, and comfort zone. Riders should progress step by step and never feel pressured to go faster or attempt techniques before they are ready. Confidence and control are always more important than speed.
2️⃣ Know Your Board and Remote
Electric hydrofoil boards are powerful machines. Riders should become familiar with their equipment before riding at higher speeds. This includes understanding:
• throttle control
• battery awareness
• board balance and response
• safe stopping and falling techniques
Learning how the board reacts in different situations helps riders stay calm and in control.
3️⃣ Know the Water
Every body of water is different. Riders should observe conditions before entering the water, including:
• wind direction
• boat traffic
• shallow areas
• docks and obstacles
• weather changes
Respecting the water environment is one of the most important habits for long-term safety.
Together, these three elements form the Big Orange Safety Circle:
Know Yourself → Know Your Board → Know the Water
Respect for the Water
At Big Orange, riders are encouraged to develop water awareness as part of the sport. This includes understanding surroundings, maintaining safe distances from other riders, and riding responsibly around docks, boats, and wildlife.
Learning to move with the water rather than against it is an important part of becoming a confident rider.

A Community That Looks After Each Other
Safety is also strengthened by the club community. Members ride together, observe each other, and share experience. More experienced riders often help newcomers with technique, balance, and safe riding habits.
This creates a supportive environment where everyone can learn and improve together.
Electric hydrofoiling is about freedom, balance, and the quiet joy of gliding above the water.
At Big Orange, we believe the safest riders are the ones who learn patiently, respect the water, and support each other along the way.
